The formula, in plain English
Weekly = wage × hours. Annual = weekly × 52. Monthly = weekly × 52 ÷ 12 (not weekly × 4 — months are longer than four weeks, and the ×4 shortcut understates your pay by about 8%).
Worked example
$25/hour at 40 hours a week: weekly = $1,000.00, annual = $52,000.00, monthly = $4,333.33.
Tips
- These are gross figures. Taxes, benefits deductions, and retirement contributions come off afterward — your take-home will be lower.
- Overtime changes the math. Hours past 40 are often paid at time-and-a-half, which this simple conversion does not include — add overtime pay separately.
- Use annual for comparisons. When comparing a $25/hour offer against a $55,000 salary, convert both to annual: the salary wins here.

Frequently asked questions
Why isn't monthly pay just weekly times four?
Because a month averages 4.33 weeks, not 4. Weekly × 4 understates monthly pay by about 8%. The accurate conversion is weekly × 52 ÷ 12.

Gross — before taxes and deductions. Take-home pay depends on your tax situation and benefits.
What about part-time or irregular hours?
