What is an amount due?
The amount due is the total the customer must pay on an invoice — the bottom-line figure after subtotal, tax, discounts, and prior payments. If an invoice has one number the client should act on, it's this one: bold it, and make sure the due date sits right beside it.
In practice
An invoice shows subtotal $500, tax $40, less deposit $200 — amount due $340, payable by October 15.
Invoices with a clear bottom line
Every Billia invoice bolds the amount due next to the due date.

Where should the amount due appear?
At the bottom of the totals block, bold, with the due date adjacent. Some invoices repeat it at the top for skimmers — that's fine too.
Amount due vs. total — same thing?
Essentially. 'Total' is the arithmetic result; 'amount due' frames it as the action. On a first invoice with no prior payments, they're identical.
Can the amount due change after sending?
Only via a credit or debit note — never by editing the sent invoice. Adjustments need their own paper trail.
